The History Of Aviator Glasses
Aviator sunglasses are a style of sunglasses that were developed by Bausch & Lomb. The original Bausch & Lomb design is now marketed as Ray-Ban Aviators.

The Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses actually make the future look cool
I’m a smart glasses skeptic. Not because the technology is impossible but because I’ve tested several pairs and even dove deep into the world for gaming a while back.
THE GOOD | THE BAD |
---|---|
Improved photo, video, and audio quality | Voice assistant is a lil slow |
You sound good on calls! | Cool AI features not available yet |
Stylish, with many options for frames and lenses | LED privacy indicator still too subtle |

Design
Aviator sunglasses have a very distinctive design: that thin, metal frame with its instantly recognisable double bridge, the teardrop-shaped lens dipping down over the eye socket, hiding much of the face from view. Seen balanced on the noses of film stars, 1970s glamazons and many a celebrity dodging paparazzi, the sunglasses have been an enduring accessory for decades.
Commercial Designs
The first advertisements for Ray-Ban aviators stated they would provide “real scientific glare protection” and were sold as sporting equipment. At this time, they had not yet taken on their name of “aviators”, the Second World War having not yet begun. In addition to popularity in the 1950s, aviators were popular in the 1970s and 1980s, with coloured frames, being worn by public figures like Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley. During the 1950s, aviator sunglasses were a part of the cultural style, mimicking military style.

Calls are another story.
These glasses trump the majority of smart glasses I’ve tested. I’ve taken a few calls from my spouse while on the go in loud environments. I had no trouble hearing them, and they had zero issues hearing me (provided I had good cell service). That’s likely because there are now five mics, one of which is in the nose pad. It made me sound clear in all my videos — almost like I was the main character in a first-person video game.

Though if you like fishing or hunting, or hiking, this is a good pick.
They are a great pair of sun glasses, they just don’t work well with screens due to the polarization. If you work with screens on equipment like construction, farming or aviation, especially outside, this isn’t for you. Though if you like fishing or hunting, or hiking, this is a good pick.

The Classic Aviator
It's gradual lenses let you read and check your phone without removing the sunglasses, and it is easier to check the dashboard when you are driving. Besides it looks absolutely stylish.

I am IN LOVE
Classic Ray-Ban aviators, by far my favorite sunglass style. The reason I never owned a real pair is because the original size was too big for my female face and the juniors size was too small. Well, Ray-Ban finally made a middle size, 58mm, that’s absolutely perfect for a woman’s face.
HOW SHOULD AVIATORS FIT?
Before we get into the individual measurements, there are a few key features to keep in mind when shopping for your Ray-Ban Aviator size. First, check out the graphic below to see the measurements we will be discussing in this post.
AVIATOR SIZE COMPARISON CHART
Want to compare Ray-Ban Aviator sizes at a glance? Our Aviator Size Comparison Chart is here to make comparing a breeze. See measurements side-by-side for each Aviator size. (P.S. Take a look at those bridge measurements! This goes to show how the bridge is a poor indicator of fit for this particular style. The Aviator's adjustable nose pads are a crucial feature on this frame and the reason you get such a perfect fit!)
